Steve Shondell, who has served as the head coach of the Burris High School’s girl’s volleyball team since 1976, is being inducted as a coach/contributor. Burris is a laboratory school associated with Ball State and is located on the BSU campus. Shondell, who earned his bachelor’s degree from Ball State in 1977 and his master’s from BSU in 1980, also lettered in men’s volleyball for the Cardinals plus spent time as an assistant coach for four national championships and 16 state titles. Shondell guided the Owls to national crowns in 1990, 1992, 1997, and 2004, plus led Burris to state titles in 1982, 1985, 1986, 1989, 1990, 1992, 1993, 1994, and each season from 1997-2004. He has been inducted into the Delaware County Hall of Fame (1988) and the Indiana Volleyball Hall of Fame (1996) plus has been the BSU Alumnus Coach of the Year (8 times), the Mid-Eastern Conference Coach of the Year (20 times) and the Indiana Volleyball Coach of the Year (5 times).Â
