Mike Neu, who is currently the head football coach at Ball State University, was a member of the Ball State football team from 1989-93. The former quarterback was the 1993 winner of the MAC’s Vern Smith Award as the league’s most valuable player and the MAC Offensive Player of the Year award after helping the Cardinals to an 8-3-1 overall record, a 7-0-1 league mark, and the MAC Championship. An All-MAC First-Team choice and Ball State’s MVP as a senior, Neu started all 11 games as a senior and 38 of 41 games in his four seasons. He still maintains the Ball State career record for most passing yards (6,271), most passes attempted (970), most passes completed (580), and completed his career as the school’s all-time leader for TD passes thrown.

After his college graduation, Neu played professionally in the Canadian Football League and Arena League before beginning his coaching career in 1998 with the Arena League’s Nashville Kats. He became the New Orleans Voodoo coach in in 2003 and was named the Arena League’s Coach of the Year in 2000 as the head coach of the Augusta Stallions in Arena League 2, and was again named Coach of the Year with the Voodoos in 2004.
