Mike Lecklider, who lettered in football for the Cardinals from 1974-76, was a co-captain on Ball State’s first-ever Mid-American Conference Championship football team in 1976. A three-year starter for the Cardinals, Lecklider completed his career tied for the school’s all-time lead in interceptions with 14. Shafer Suggs, who played for Ball State from 1972-75, set the record and Lecklider tied it the following season as a senior. As a junior, Lecklider tied for fifth in the nation and second in the MAC with seven interceptions plus ranked fourth on the squad with 79 total tackles. As a senior, he led Ball State with five interceptions plus was second on the team with 98 tackles.
