Reist lettered for the men’s tennis team from 1984 through 1988. A three-time All-Mid-American Conference selection, Reist helped the Cardinals to four straight conference championships in his collegiate career. Under the tutelage of longtime head coach Bill Richards, Reist was one of the first student-athletes in Ball State history to help his team to four straight MAC Championships. He completed his collegiate career with a 109-43 singles record, which ranks third in Ball State history in terms of individual victories. As a senior, Reist was the MAC Flight Champion at No.1 singles plus teamed with Mike Raymond to win the flight championship at No. 2 doubles. He was named to the All-MAC Team after serving as a tri-captain on the Cardinals’ championship squad.

As a junior, Reist helped Ball State to another league crown and was selected to the All-MAC Team. He was the conference champion at No. 2 singles and was named the MAC Player of the Week one time during the season.

In his sophomore season, Reist teamed with fellow Ball State Hall of Fame member Gene Orlando to win the conference championship at No. 2 doubles. Reist was once again named to the All-MAC Team and helped Ball State to the league title. He was named the MAC Player of the Week one time in 1985-86.

As a freshman in 1984-85, Reist was the MAC Champion at No. 4 singles and teamed with Orlando to win the title at No. 2 doubles. He helped BSU to the conference championship, which was the second in school history and began a string of 12 straight league titles for the Cardinals.
