Marsh earned All-American honors and was an NCAA Division I Track and Field National Champion after capturing the 1,000-yard run in the 1977 NCAA Indoor Championships. Marsh earned three letters as a member of the BSU men’s cross country team, plus was a four-year letterwinner on the school’s track and field team. He won the 1,000-yard run national title as a freshman when he posted a time of 2:07.89. Marsh was a four-time participant in the national indoor championships, competing in the 1,000-yard run as a freshman, sophomore and senior, and in the 880-yard run as a junior. He was also a two-time participant in the 800-meter run at the national outdoor championships. During his collegiate career, Marsh, either individually or as a member of a relay team, set 16 school records, including 13 in his freshman campaign. He still owns three individual school records and four more as a relay team member. He owns BSU’s individual records in the outdoor 800-meter run (1:47.04), the indoor 880-yard run (1:50.0), and the indoor 1,000-yard run (3:56.4).
