Harmeyer earned four letters as a member of Ball State’s cross country and track and field teams from 1987-92. He earned NCAA All-America honors in cross country in 1990 after finishing 33^rd overall and 24^th among American runners at the 1990 NCAA Cross Country Championships. Harmeyer covered the 10,000-meter course in a career-best time of 30:10, and became only the second BSU men’s cross country athlete to earn All-America status. A three-time All-MAC selection in cross country, Harmeyer was the 1990 league champion. In addition, he was an NCAA Division I Coaches Association All-Academic Team selection and an Academic All-MAC At-Large First-Team choice in 1990.
