Dr. Emens, president of Ball State for 23 years, engineered the institution’s immense growth in athletics between 1945 and 1968 while laying a sound foundation for the university’s continual athletic rise since his retirement. During his term, four varsity sports were added – gymnastics, wrestling, soccer, and volleyball – while the vast improvement of sports facilities featured construction of Ball State Football Stadium, University Gym, University Pool, and University Track.
