Todd rewrote nearly all of Ball State’s rushing records while leading the Cardinals to an unbeaten record and into the school’s first bowl game in 1965 and then spent the 1966 season in the National Football League with Detroit.

When he left BSU in 1966, Todd held university records with 198 rushing yards in a single game, 850 in one season, and 1,751 for his career. Plus 128 rushing attempts in one season, a 95-yard kickoff return, and a 31.9 seasonal average on kickoff returns. The 5-11 200-pound halfback was twice an all-ICC pick, the state’s top scorer in 1965 with 76 points, a starter in the North-South College All-Star Game after his senior year, and a ninth round pick in the 1966 NFL draft by Philadelphia.
