Davidson lettered three years in football as a guard at Ball State from 1936 to 1938, earning all-state honors after his junior and senior seasons.

The Bicknell native spent 24 years at Muncie Central, serving seven campaigns as assistant football coach, and seven at Muncie Northside before retiring in 1977. Between 1951 and 1964, Davidson officiated both football and basketball on the college and high school levels, and, in 1964, he was president of the Indiana Association of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation.
