Sherry, a three-year starter for Ball State’s baseball team, was the first Cardinal athlete to earn All-America honors in the university division. He was placed on the third team in 1967 after batting .455 and posting a 7-1 pitching record. Sherry’s .455 plate mark remains the highest single-season average in BSU history, while his .706 winning percentage as a pitcher still ranks third on BSU’s career list. Sherry was also named to the All-District Four team and was chosen as the ICC’s Most Valuable Player in 1967.
