Deon Chester lettered in football for the Cardinals from 1984-88. He won Ball State’s John Magnabosco Award as the team’s most valuable player with his senior season in 1987. Chester, who was a 1987 All-MAC Second-Team choice as a senior, set Ball State career records for receptions with 146 and receiving yards with 2,256. His two career receiving records stood at Ball State for 17 years until Dante Ridgeway set new marks in 2004. As a senior, Chester ranked second in the MAC in receptions per game with a 4.5 average, and caught 50 passes for 838 yards and three touchdowns. He played in 43 of the team’s 44 games in his career, including starts in 37 of his final 38 games. Chester ended his career ranked fourth in the MAC in career receptions and third in reception yards.

Chester, who spent the 1989-93 seasons as an assistant football coach at Ball State and served stints as an assistant at Indiana, Temple, and Western Michigan, is an account manager for Stryker Medical.
