Dave Schakel helped Ball State’s men’s volleyball team to three consecutive third-place finishes in the NCAA Championships from 1971 to 1973. He was selected Most Valuable Player in the Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association and named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team in 1973 plus was voted to the NCAA All-Star Team in 1972.
