Dave Keener earned four letters as a member of Ball State University’s men’s swimming and diving program, under the direction of head coach Bob Thomas.
Keener capped his outstanding career by earning All-America honors as a senior after placing eighth on the one-meter diving board at the 1994 NCAA Championships. The only diving All-American in Ball State history, Keener also earned honorable mention on the College Swimming Coaches of America team three times. He won six Mid-American Conference Diving Championships, a feat that ranked as the second most in conference history at the time.
Keener was the Mid-American Conference Diver of the Year as a sophomore and junior and then shared the award with teammate John Goheen in 1993-94. Keener managed 71 wins in his career, and helped the Ball State divers go undefeated throughout the 1993-94 campaign.
At the conclusion of his career, Keener owned every one of Ball State’s records in diving and five of the six all-time MAC marks.
Keener, who graduated with a 3.38 grade-point average on Ball State’s 4.0 scale, majored in criminal justice. A three-time team captain, Keener was twice named to the Academic All-MAC First Team, and was an Academic All-District choice as a senior.
