Tennyson, a 1984 graduate of Ball State, was a 1984 Golf Coaches Association All-America Scholar plus earned honorable mention All-America honors as a sophomore and junior. Tennyson, who has won seven professional tournaments and placed second in two PGA (Professional Golf Association) Tour events, won a Ball State school-record eight collegiate tournaments in his four-year career. He was a three-time All-Mid-American Conference selection and led the MAC with a 74.1 stroke average in 1983-84. In the fall of 1987, Tennyson qualified for the PGA Tour and placed in the top six in 10 tour events over the next six years. He enjoyed his best season on the pro tour in 1990 when he posted eight top-10 finishes and finished 29th on the PGA Money List.
 
After a six-year stint on the tour, Tennyson retired from the PGA to become vice president and a part owner with Papa John’s International.
