Bishop earned three letters in football at Ball State from 1989-92 after transferring to BSU from St. Joseph’s (Ind.) College. He sat out the 1989 season as a transfer before lettering in 1990, 1991, and 1992 for the Cardinals. Bishop completed his Ball State career with an appearance in the Blue-Gray All-Star Game and then was selected by the Houston Oilers in the eighth round of the National Football League Draft. Bishop started 10 games as a senior and 28 contests in his three seasons, while appearing in 32 contests. He was an All-Mid-American Conference Second-Team choice in 1992 as a senior and 1990 as a sophomore. One of BSU’s team captains as a senior, Bishop was rated as the 17th-best defensive back in the country by a professional scouting service prior to his senior season. The 5-foot-9 cornerback, tallied 243 total tackles, managed 13 pass breakups, tallied 15 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, one interception, and one blocked kick in his Ball State career. Bishop played 10 seasons in the NFL for the Houston Oilers, Tennessee Titans, and Philadelphia Eagles. He was a four-time Pro Bowl selection, and was named one of the NFL’s Top 100 Players by The Sporting News in 1998.
