Stringer was an All-Mid-American Conference defensive end at Ball State in 1975, when the Cardinals posted a 9-2 overall record. The three-year BSU starter was drafted in the ninth round by the Houston Oilers and played five seasons for the National Football League team before retiring in 1982. He played in all 14 Houston games during the 1977 season and started games during the 1978, 1979, and 1980 campaigns.
