Lee, who lettered three years in football and two years in wrestling for Ball State from 1971 through 1973, is one of only two BSU student-athletes to compete in the Olympics and the only one to compete in the Olympics as a representative of the United States. He competed in the sport of wrestling for 16 years and was involved in international competition from 1976 through 1984, including the 1976 Olympics and served as an alternate for the 1984 Olympic team. As a wrestler at BSU, Lee posted a 13-1 dual-match mark as a junior and an 8-0 record in his senior season. As a senior, he placed first at the NCAA Regionals and advanced to the NCAA Championships.
