Becca Mueller, who helped guide Georgia to the championship game of the 2019 NCAA Minneapolis Regional, spent the 2020 season as an assistant coach for the Ball State softball program.
She left the staff in July of 2020 for a similar position at Cal.
During her one-year stint in Muncie, Mueller helped develop the Cardinals into an offensive juggernaut. Ball State's offense was nearly unstoppable during the COVID-19 shortened 2020 season, leading the MAC and ranking among the nation's best with a .304 team batting average. Up and down the lineup, the Cardinals were getting consistent production with all nine regular starters hitting at least .261. In fact, six starters finished the year batting .297-or-better.
Â
Ball State averaged an impressive 6.19 runs-per-game, aided by its ability to blast the ball out of the yard. Overall, the Cardinals smashed 29 home runs over the 27 games played, which are the second-most over the first 27 games in program history, trailing only the 31 smashed by the 2014 squad. Eight different Ball State players hit at least one home run in 2020, with five smashing four-or-more.
Â
But the long ball was not the only thing the Cardinals were proficient at during the 27-game 2020 season. Ball State also led the league and ranked third nationally with 53 doubles and drew 102 total walks to once again lead the conference and rank eighth nationally.
Â
As a volunteer coach for the Bulldogs in 2019, Mueller helped the program produce a 42-19 overall record and finish the year ranked 17th in the USA Today / NFCA Division I Top 25 Coaches Poll. She helped four members of the program earn NFCA All-Southeast Region honors, with one player going on to earn NFCA All-America status. Georgia finished the year ranked 14th nationally in home runs per game (1.26), 16th in slugging percentage (.508) and 18th in scoring (6.03 runs per game).
Â
Prior to joining the Georgia coaching staff, Mueller was a volunteer coach for her alma mater the College of Charleston for the 2018 season. She helped the Cougars finish the year with a 31-27 overall record and advance to the semifinals of the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament. She also helped one player earn recognition on the NFCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region First Team and finish her career with program records for hits, batting average, runs scored and stolen bases.
Â
Mueller started her collegiate coaching career as an assistant coach at Colgate for the 2017 season. She helped oversee a dramatic upsurge in the Raiders' offensive production as the program added .051 (.222 to .273) to its batting average, .105 (.312 to .417) to its slugging percentage and nearly doubled its home run total (15 to 29) from before her arrival.
Â
Prior to joining the coaching ranks, Mueller enjoyed an illustrious playing career at the College of Charleston (2013-16). She helped guide the Cougars to a 136-88 record over her four years, including a 40-win season in 2014. She was an NFCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region honoree as a senior, a two-time All-CAA selection and a two-time CAA All-Tournament Team recipient.
Â
Mueller, who started 220 games in the outfield for CofC, finished her career ranked in the top 10 in 12 offensive categories, including third in doubles (40), fourth in hits (219), triples (9) and RBI (122), fifth in extra base hits (61) and total bases (313), sixth in on-base percentage (.417), seventh in at bats (653) and batting average (.335), ninth in slugging percentage (.479) and tenth in runs scored (120) and walks (62).
Â
Mueller graduated from the College of Charleston in May of 2016 with a degree in political science.
