Field Hockey Recognized for Academic Excellence

MUNCIE, Ind.– The National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced 74 Division I field hockey teams as recipients of the 2017 Zag Field Hockey/ NFHCA National Academic Team Award. The Ball State field hockey team proudly made that list.
The National Academic Team Award recognizes programs that earned a team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher during the fall semester of the 2017-18 academic year.
The NFHCA also announced this year's Scholars of Distinction. This award is given to student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or higher during the first semester of the 2017-2018. Carley Shannon, Allison Parker, Jenna McKune and Kylee Cunningham were the four Cardinals that made that list. Shannon, a senior midfielder for the Cards, earned a 3.991 cumulative GPA as an exercise science major. Parker, McKune and Cunningham are all freshmen and all earned a perfect 4.0 GPA. Parker earned her perfect GPA with a major in biology. McKune is a pre-med major and Cunningham is currently undecided.
The Ball State field hockey team had 10 members named to the Academic All-MAC team last semester. On the field, the Cardinals finished last season with a 5-12 record.
