Women’s Swimming and Diving Head to Athens, Ohio for Conference Meet

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State women's swimming and diving team will travel to Athens, Ohio to compete in the Mid-American Conference Championship meet Wednesday, Feb. 21 through Saturday, Feb. 24.

LAST YEAR
The Ball State women's swimming and diving team placed eighth in the 2017 MAC Swimming and Diving Championships after earning 161.5 points. Over the course of the four day event, the Cardinals combined to earn top-16 finishes on six occasions. Amanda Kedzierski set a career best in the 100 breaststroke. Kedzierski's time of 1:02.94 placed her second all-time in school history. Rachel Bertram also set a career best at last year's meet in the 3-meter dive. Bertram posted a score of 294.40.
Akron was able to seal its fourth consecutive MAC Championship title with a performance of 750 points, while Eastern Michigan earned second with 600 points. Buffalo took the third spot while the host school of Miami placed fourth.
PRESEASON RANKINGS
Akron earned all eight votes in the preseason coaches' poll. Leading the way for Akron is 2016-17 MAC Swimming Coach of the Year, Brian Peresie who is heading into his fifth season at the helm for the Zips. In the pool, Akron will be led by their five returning All-MAC first team recipients in Ragen Engel, Sadie Fazekas, Paloma Marrero, Madison Myers, and Jackie Pash.
Buffalo was selected to finish second in the Mid-American Conference this season. Returning for the Bulls in 2017-18 is last season's MAC Most Outstanding Swimmer and All MAC first-team recipient Megan Burns.
Eastern Michigan was picked to finish third in the poll while Miami and Ohio were selected to finish fourth and fifth, respectively. Bowling Green, Toledo, and your Cardinals all round out the poll.
