Women's Tennis Wins Sunday Doubleheader Over EIU

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team improved to 3-1 Sunday afternoon in the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center, with two wins over Eastern Illinois (0-5). The Cardinals defeated the Panthers 4-3 in the first match and then 4-2 in the night cap.
Ball State took both of the doubles points from the Panthers Sunday afternoon. Peyton Gollhofer alongside teammate Lilya Hadab took down Srishti Slaria and Claire Martin, 6-3 at the No. 3 position to clinch the point for Ball State in the first match. In the second meeting of the double header, Audrey Berger and Rebecca Herrington put the Cardinals up 1-0 after claiming the doubles point on the top court over EIU's Grace Summers and Stella Cliffe.
In singles action, the Cardinals took the first match down to the wire as the match was tied 3-3 with one court remaining. The decision came down to Victoria Sec on court five, who had dropped the first set to Emily Pugachevsky by a score of 7-6. Sec fought her way back and took the second frame 6-3. She then carried her momentum into the final stanza winning 6-1, to secure the win for Ball State.
Rebecca Herrington opened the second match of singles play with a quick win over Karla Contreras, 6-0, 6-1. Isabelle Dohanics pushed Ball State's lead to 3-0 after her straight set take down over Abby Carpenter at the No. 5 slot. The Panthers made it a 3-2 score after earning wins on courts six and two.
With only two courts remaining, Audrey Berger was up at the No. 3 position as she defeated Grace Summers 6-4 in set one and then took the second frame by a score of 6-3 to clinch the second match for the Cardinals.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues non-conference action on the road at Wright State Sunday, Feb. 4. First serve is set for 1:30 p.m.
