Field Hockey Dominates Home Opener Against Saint Louis

MUNCIE, Ind.– The Ball State field hockey team had a stellar start to the season with a 5-0 victory over Saint Louis Friday afternoon.
The first strike was from Carley Shannon at 17:21 off a penalty corner. Shannon was assisted by Michelle Shampton. Just one minute later, Sierra Jefferson got in on the action scoring her first career goal off a deflection on a penalty corner and a Hillary Scott assist. Jefferson was also part of the Cardinals third goal of the first half with an assist to Abbey Main at 21:30. This marks the first time the Cardinals have scored 3-or-more goals in a half at home since tallying five goals in the second half against Bellarmine on Oct. 11, 2015.
The first goal of the second half was by Shampton, which was assisted by Anya Eicher. Abbey Main ended the day with a bang after scoring her second goal of the game with two seconds remaining in the contest.
In the goal, Grace Chavez earned her first career start playing all 70 minutes and earning two saves.
The Ball State field hockey team will return to action on Sunday, Aug. 27 at 2 p.m. as they look to take down the Ohio Bobcats at Briner Sports Complex.
