Women's Basketball Signs Two Transfers
August 17, 2017 | Women's Basketball
MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State women's basketball head coach Brady Sallee has officially signed transfers Zayn Dornstauder from the University of San Francisco and Keri Kleist from California State University, Bakersfield.
"My staff did an outstanding job of identifying and evaluating both Keri and Zayn," said Sallee. "Their addition to our program is just what the doctor ordered, and I believe it puts us in a position to have another great year."
Kleist, a 6-foot-3 forward/center, will be immediately eligible for the 2017-18 season. The NCAA granted her a sixth year of eligibility after injuries forced her to miss two full seasons. In her most recent season of action, Kleist played in 28 games with five starts for the Roadrunners in 2015-16.
Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, Kleist played for coach Paula Hayden at Sycamore High School, where she was an all-conference performer.
"Keri instantly gives us the size, agility and skill set that we were missing on this year's squad. We think she can be a real asset to what we plan to do on both ends of the floor this season."
Dornstauder, a 6-foot-3 forward/center from Regina, Saskatchewan, will sit out the 2017-18 season because of NCAA transfer rules and then have two years of eligibility remaining. She spent two seasons at San Francisco, helping the Dons to 39 wins during that stretch and an appearance in the 2016 NCAA tournament.
Dornstauder had a successful prep career at Hamilton High School where she earned all-star status in 2014 helping her team earn the provincial 5A championship title. She also played four years for Team Saskatchewan while also competing in the 2013 Jeux Canada Summer Games, the 2012 U15 Women's National Championship and the 2011 West Canada Summer Games.
"We are extremely excited about Zayn," said Sallee. "She has a unique combination of athleticism and strength that will fit perfectly into our system. The sky is the limit for Zayn."
