All-Access: Women's Basketball Adds Another Indiana All-Star
June 28, 2017 | Women's Basketball
Maliah Howard-Bass become fifth all-star to play for Brady Sallee at Ball State
When the Indiana High School All-Stars faced off against their rivals from Kentucky, June 10th at Banker's Life Fieldhouse, it was a Ball State Cardinal that buried the game's first shot. The lid was lifted on the rivalry when Maliah Howard-Bass buried a corner three, one of two she'd hit that night. That Indiana-Kentucky series was the final stop before Howard-Bass became a full-fledged Cardinal.
As a senior at Columbus North High School, Howard-Bass averaged 17 points per game and hit more than 100 threes over her final two seasons. That performance led her to be named an Indiana All-Star, one of the top 13 players in the state. It also followed in her mother's footsteps. Brianna Howard was, herself, an Indiana All-Star in 2002 before moving on to play collegiately at Purdue.
Enrolling at Ball State for the current summer session, Howard-Bass becomes the fifth Indiana All-Star to play for coach Brady Sallee in Muncie and, in conjunction with Destiny Washington, becomes the second on the current team. Previous Indiana All-Stars Jill Morrison, Brandy Woody and Shelbie Justice all played for Sallee as well. Overall, the Cardinals have had eight all-stars over the last 13 seasons, including current assistant coach Audrey McDonald Spencer in 2006.
