Cardinals Again Excel Academically in Spring Semester

MUNCIE, Ind. -- The 2017 spring academic semester was another successful one in the classroom for Ball State University student-athletes.

Sixteen of the 18 Cardinal athletic teams (indoor and outdoor track combined) finished the semester with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) at or above 3.0.

The women's swimming and diving team posted the highest cumulative GPA at 3.646. The men's tennis team was the best among the Ball State men's teams at 3.574.

A total of eight Ball State student-athletes ended the year in the cumulative 4.0 club – Tanner Barton of the men's swimming team, Alyssa Heintschel and Yela Ziswiler of the soccer team, Sophie Bader and Anne Vohrmohr of the women's swimming team, Kate Avila and Ali Finch of the women's volleyball team, and Brooke Talhelm of the cross country team.

Thirty-two student-athletes recorded perfect 4.0 GPAs for the spring semester, while 161 qualified for the Dean's List (3.5 or better). Overall, 68 percent of the 407 student-athletes posted a semester GPA of 3.0 GPA or higher.

Sixty-nine student-athletes earned their Ball State diplomas this spring. The cumulative GPA for all student-athletes at the end of the spring semester was 3.229.
