Lewis Places 21st to Finish Season at NCAA East Preliminary Championships
May 26, 2017 | Track & Field
LEXINGTON, Ky. - - Ball State track & field sophomore Regan Lewis successfully cleared 1.74m on her third attempt to place 21st among 48 of the region's top high jumpers Friday afternoon at the NCAA East Preliminary Championships at the University of Kentucky's Outdoor Track & Field Complex.
The 2017 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Champion in the event, Lewis entered the meet tied for seventh in the region after successfully clearing a career-best height of 1.82m at the MAC Championships.
Unfortunately, Lewis was unable to clear 1.79m in her three attempts Friday and finished 12th in her flight and 21st overall to end her outdoor season as she was not one of the top 12 jumpers to advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
A three-time MAC Championship medalist in the high jump, earning gold in 2017 (outdoor), silver in 2017 (indoor) and bronze in 2016 (outdoor), Lewis' outdoor mark of 1.82m is the second-best individual performance in program history.
In addition, Lewis holds the program record in the indoor high jump after successfully clearing 1.81m in her second-place finish at the 2017 MAC Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Lewis is just the second Ball State student-athlete to compete in the high jump at the NCAA East Preliminary Championships, joining Rebecca Lomax who qualified three times (2011, 2012, 2015) after the championship format was changed following the 2009 season.
