MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team is the No. 1 seed and host for this weekend's 2017 Mid-American Conference Tournament at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center (April 26-28) in Muncie, Ind. If inclement weather occurs, the tournament will be moved indoors at the Northwest YMCA.

There are six teams participating in the tournament; No. 1 Ball State, No. 2 Akron, No. 3 Buffalo, No. 4 Miami, No. 5 Northern Illinois and No. 6 Western Michigan. Two quarterfinal matches will be played Friday at 10 a.m., and 2 p.m.

Both Ball State and Akron earned byes to the semifinals as the top two seeds respectively, and those competitions are scheduled to begin Saturday with first serves at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Â On Sunday, the title match will begin at noon with a trophy ceremony immediately following the competition. Â

Each match will consist of three doubles competitions and six singles matches. Whichever team reaches four points first will win the match and advance in the bracket.  Once a team has clinched, the remaining courts will stop play.

The Ball State women's tennis team won its second-consecutive regular season title with its come-from-behind, 4-3, victory over Akron last Saturday afternoon at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center. Â The Cardinals enter this weekend's tournament with a 20-2 overall mark and a perfect 8-0 league ledger. Â

Ball State will face either No. 4 Miami or No. 5 Northern Illinois Saturday at 10 a.m. The Cardinals beat both the RedHawks (4-3) and Huskies (6-1) on the road this year.

Last year the Cardinals won the program's first MAC Tournament championship and automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament after their 4-0 win over Western Michigan at Miami University's Hepburn Varsity Tennis Courts. Â

As the regular season champion, Ball State has also earned the right to host next year's MAC Tournament.
