Men's Tennis Closes MAC Opening Weekend With 6-1 Win Over Toledo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Ball State men's tennis team (9-7, 1-1 MAC) closed its first weekend of Mid-American Conference action with a 6-1 victory over Toledo (9-9, 0-1 MAC) Saturday afternoon in Kalamazoo.
Wins at the No. 1 and the No. 3 doubles positions helped Ball State take the ealy 1-0 lead over the Rockets. Lucas Andersen alongside doubles partner Andrew Stutz improved to 2-0 in league action after their 7-6 (12-10) take down over Stjepan Sisko and Thawin Suksathaporn on court one to clinch the point for the Cardinals. At the No. 3 position, Patrick Downs and Marko Guzina defeated Juan Carranza and Reid Teatsorth, 6-2.
Ball State then dominated singles play taking five of the six matches from Toledo. For the second-straight match, the Cardinals had a hard fought battle winning four of their five matches in three set thrillers. In Lucas Andersen's win over Stjepan Sisko both his sets were decided by tiebreakers, 7-5 (5), 7-6 (5) on the top court. The remainder of the Cardinals dropped their first sets but came back in sets two and three, each registering wins on their respective courts.
The match was clinched by Marko Guzina after his 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 take down over Luka Vitosevic at the No. 3 position.
The Ball State men's tennis team plays at Butler on Wednesday beginning at 4 p.m. before returning to league action Saturday at home against Northern Illinois at 2 p.m.
