Washington Earns MAC Player Of The Week Honors
December 27, 2017 | Women's Basketball
CLEVELAND, Ohio - Ball State women's basketball senior forward Destiny Washington has been named Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week, marking the second time Washington has earned the honor in her career.
Washington combined for 40 points during last week's competition after leading the Cardinals with a 25 point, 10 rebound performance for her second double-double of the season and sixth of her career, against Austin Peay last Monday. She then scored 15 points against Western Kentucky Thursday.
Last week, Washington averaged 20.0 points per game and 9.5 rebounds while shooting 68 percent from the field (17-of-25) and 66 percent from the free throw line (6-of-9). She also added 7.0 blocks and 6.0 steals.
The senior forward helped the Cardinals finish their non-conference season with an 11-0 record for Ball State's best start in program history. Ball State remains one of seven teams nationally that are still undefeated. The Cardinals have recently gained national attention by receiving votes in both the Associated Press Top 25 poll and this week's USA Today Coaches Top 25 poll.
The Ball State women's basketball team will look to extend its win streak to 12 this coming Saturday, Dec. 30 when it hosts Central Michigan for its Mid-American Conference opener. Tipoff is at 2 p.m. in Worthen Arena.
