December 11, 2017 | Women's Basketball
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's basketball team is off to its best start in program history, improving to 9-0 after last week's competition. The Cardinals' success has them in the receiving votes section of the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll.
Â
Ball State turned heads with its 66-60 victory over Big Ten foe Purdue last week. It marked the first time since 1979 a Ball State women's basketball team had taken down the Boilermakers. The win also marked the Cardinals' second victory over a Power 5 conference program this season, as Ball State defeated Vanderbilt 88-79 on the road Nov. 20.
Â
The Cardinals are one of 12 remaining NCAA Division I programs with an unblemished record this season and are the only Mid-American Conference team receiving votes in the AP Top 25. Ball State is led by senior forward Moriah Monaco who is averaging 17.0 points per game and earned MAC Player of the Week honors last week. Junior guard Carmen Grande ranks second nationally in assists, averaging 9.6 per contest.
Â
The Ball State women's basketball team will look to extend its win streak to 10 Monday, Dec. 18 when it hosts Austin Peay for its annual Kids Day Event. Tipoff is at 11 a.m. in Worthen Arena.
