Women’s Basketball Begins Practice Tuesday
October 03, 2017 | Women's Basketball
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's basketball team begins preparing for the 2017-18 season with the first official practice of the season today. The Cardinals will be led by sixth-year head coach Brady Sallee.
"I'm excited to get going with this group," Sallee said. "They've had a great summer and preseason leading into the start of practice and I like the leadership I'm seeing out of this team. Although there may be a few questions surrounding the season, I think these young ladies will do what it takes to provide the answers."
The Cardinals' roster includes seven newcomers and six returnees this season. Ball State welcomes back three All-Mid-American Conference selections, junior guard Carmen Grande, senior guard Moriah Monaco and senior forward Destiny Washington, along with senior guard Frannie Frazier, junior guard Nakeya Penny and sophomore forward Aliyah Walker.
Ball State welcomes four true freshmen, guard Katie Helgason, guard Maliah Howard-Bass, forward Sara Price and forward Oshlynn Brown. The Cardinals have three transfers on the roster this season, senior forward Keri Kleist and junior guard Jasmin Samz, both of whom are eligible to play this season. Forward Zayn Dornstauder will sit out this year due to NCAA transfer rules.
The Cardinals open the season with an exhibition game against Illinois-Springfield on Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. in Worthen Arena. Ball State officially opens the 2017-18 season on the road at Cleveland State on Nov. 11.
