Women’s Tennis Loses Hard Fought Battle Against WMU in #MACtion Sunday
April 14, 2024 | Women's Tennis
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team (7-13, 3-5 MAC) dropped a hard fought 5-2 battle Sunday afternoon to Western Michigan (15-6, 5-3 MAC) at the Foster Adams Family Tennis Center and Bill Richards Tennis Courts.
The Cardinals opened the match off strong after taking the doubles point from the Broncos. Annika Planinsek paired up with Ella Hazelbaker at the No. 2 position to earn the 6-2 defeat over WMU's Karin Hamilton and Polina Khotko. The Cardinals were also successful on court No. 3 as Sydney Hrehor alongside Elena Malykh also won their match by a 6-2 decision.
Unfortunately, the Broncos made a quick comeback in singles taking five of the six courts from the Cardinals. The lone player for Ball State to win in singles was Isabelle Tanjuatco after taking down Ariane Souligny at the No. 5 slot, 6-2, 6-1.
Despite losing in singles, many courts could have gone either way as courts No. 1, No. 3, and No. 4 were all decided in three set thrillers.
The Ball State women's tennis team will travel to Northern Illinois Friday for a 2 pm ET first serve. The Cardinals will then close out their Mid-American Conference action when it hosts Toledo on Sunday, April 21
