Carter Smith Earns Third MAC Golfer of the Week Award

MUNCIE, Ind. – After helping Ball State dominate a championship effort at the MAC/A-10 Challenge earlier this week in Florida, sophomore golfer Carter Smith has been named the Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Week. A native of Sellersburg, Indiana, and Silver Creek High School, Smith garners his third conference award after collecting two last fall.
In the MAC/A-10 Challenge match-play event featuring three other MAC schools, Smith was utterly dominant. Playing in the No. 1 position against top players from other schools, Smith went 3-0 in the tournament and was so dominant that he never even reached the 17th hole in any matches.
He won 5-up against an Ohio opponent with four holes still to play; he won 3-up against GW's top player, with two holes still to play; and he helped Ball State win the championship match by downing Eastern Michigan's top-ranked player, also 3&2.
Over the 54-hole match play event, Smith needed just 46 of 54 holes to dispense of each team's top player. He shot below par in 11 of his 46 holes.
The men's golf team resumes action at the Dorado Beach Collegiate, Feb. 25-27, at TPC Dorado Beach in Puerto Rico.
