January 13, 2024 | Women's Tennis
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team will open its 2024 spring season Sunday when it plays at Big Ten foe Purdue at the Schwartz Tennis Center. First serve is 1 pm ET.
Ball State enters a new era under first-year head coach Sachin Kirtane. The Cardinals return four players (Ella Hazelbaker, Elena Malykh, Jacqueline Pearsall, and Annika Planinsek) from last year's 2023 Mid-American Conference Tournament squad while also welcoming three newcomers (Sydney Hrehor, Sarah Shahbaz and Isabel Tanjuatco).
The upcoming match will be the second meeting between the two teams since 1992. In the most recent battle against Ball State on Jan. 22, 2022, Purdue bested the Cardinals 4-3. Purdue remains undefeated against Ball State with an all-time series record of 15-0 with the Boilermakers surrendering just 17 points.
After this weekend, the Cardinals will return to the court for their home opener on Jan. 27 against Cleveland State at 1:30 pm ET.
