Ball State Shines In Latest APR Report
May 02, 2023 | General
MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State Athletics continued to excel in the latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) with a score of 986 for the 2021-22 season, the NCAA announced Tuesday. That is just shy of the department's all-time high of 992 accomplished following the 2020-21 year.
Â
"The latest APR report confirms that Ball State student-athletes continue to achieve outstanding academic success," Director of Athletics Jeff Mitchell said. "Our coaches and staff promote student-athlete academic achievement at every turn. As high performing students, our student-athletes value academic and athletic excellence as a core component of their Ball State experience."
The APR, created to provide more of a real-time measurement of academic success than graduation rates offer, is a team-based metric in which scholarship student-athletes earn one point each term for remaining eligible and one point for staying in school or graduating. Schools that don't offer scholarships track their recruited student-athletes. The nationwide APR average was 984, holding steady from the last publicly reported rate in June of 2021.
In total, 10 teams earned perfect scores of 1,000 for the 2021-22 year, including baseball, men's golf, men's swimming & diving, men's tennis, women's cross country, women's golf, women's soccer, women's tennis, women's track & field, and women's volleyball.
Â
In addition, six teams have posted perfect scores of 1,000 for their multiyear rate, including men's golf, men's tennis, women's cross country, women's golf, soccer, and women's track & field. The numbers include data from 2018-19, 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-22 academic years.
Â
Of Ball State's 18 teams (indoor and outdoor track combined as one), 14 either matched or exceeded their last multiyear APR score. Women's volleyball made the biggest leap, rising 19 points to 995. Women's basketball, football, and baseball also improved their multiyear scores.Â
There were also 13 teams who logged multiyear scores higher than the national average. In addition to 1,000-point scorers men's golf, men's tennis, women's cross country, women's golf, women's soccer, and women's track & field, teams that exceeded the national mark include softball (997), baseball (995), women's volleyball (995), women's tennis (992), men's volleyball (988), football (980), and men's basketball (970).
