March 18, 2023 | Gymnastics
KENT, Ohio - - In advance of this afternoon's Mid-American Conference Gymnastics Championships, Ball State juniors Suki Pfister and Victoria Henry were honored by the league's seven head coaches with sports on All-MAC teams.
Â
"Suki and Victoria are both great competitors and a big part of our vault squad's success," said head coach Joanna Saleem. "They continually push the rest of the group to be stronger vaulters."
Â
Pfister earns All-MAC First Team honors for the second straight season as the league's top vaulter. She currently ranks first in the MAC and tied for 10th nationally with a vault NQS of 9.915.
Â
"Suki has a difficult, high-level vault that is huge," Saleem said. "Her front handspring pike half starts from a 10.0 and she consistently performs it in a way that makes it look easy. She is such a dynamic vaulter, and does it so well, that everyone loves to watch it. She has worked hard on consistency and from, which has placed her as the top vaulter in the MAC this season."Â
Â
She has registered six vault scores of 9.900-or-higher this season, including tying her career best with 9.950s versus both Central Michigan (Feb. 26) and Western Michigan (March 12). Pfister has also won the vault competition in seven of Ball State's 11 meets to date, including four of BSU's six league contests.
Â
Pfister has also been one of the nation's most consistent vaulters, ranking 11th nationally with an average score of 9.891. All 11 of her vaults this season have come in at 9.800-or-higher. In addition, Pfister has made a major impact on floor, ranking 11th in the league with an NQS of 9,855. She also tied the program's floor record with a 9.950 at the Tennessee Collegiate Classic (Jan. 20).
Â
Henry earns All-MAC Second Team honors for the second time in her career, as she also picked up the award as a freshman in 2021. An all-around competitor in all 11 meets for the Cardinals this season, Henry also earns the award for her performance on vault in which she ranks second in the MAC and tied for 38th nationally.
Â
"Victoria has another difficult vault that starts from a 10.0," Saleem said. "She has committed to competing a y-1.5 and gotten stronger and stronger each week. I have enjoyed watching her confidence grow throughout the year, which has turned into her consistently performing this difficult vault very well."
Â
She has tied her career best on vault twice this season, earning 9.925s to win the event at Bowling Green (March 3) and at the Missouri Quad (March 10). She's also landed vaults of 9.825-or-higher in 10 of BSU's 11 meets.
Â
In addition to her solid performance on vault, Henry broke the program's all-around record with a score of 39.400 versus Central Michigan. The effort included a 9.900 on floor, a 9.875 on vault, a career best 9.850 on beam and a 9.775 on bars. Overall, Henry has three of the top seven all-around scores in program history.Â
