Women’s Tennis Earns Four of Six Doubles Victories at UC/Pam Whitehead Invite

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Ball State women's tennis team turned in a successful first day of action in doubles play at the UC/Pam Whitehead Invitational Friday which was played at the Trabert-Talbert Tennis Center.
The two-day event is hosted by the University of Cincinnati. Ball State will face the Bearcats along with the Xavier Musketeers and the Miami RedHawks.
The Cardinals, in their second fall tournament of the season, won four of six doubles matches that were played today.
Annika Planinsek teamed up with Sydney Hrehor in the opening round of doubles against UC. The duo defeated the Bearcats twosome of Elizabeth Pendergast and Morgan Pyrz, 6-4.
Later in the afternoon, Ball State went 3-0 against fellow Mid-American Conference member Miami. Planinsek and Hrehor claimed a 7-6 (3) victory versus the RedHawks Sara Zalukar and Lauren Joyce. Elena Malykh paired up with Ella Hazelbaker for a 6-2 take down against Emilia and Lovisa Valentinsson. Jacqueline Pearsall and Isabele Tanjuatco were up 3-2 in their match before the RedHawks' duo retired.
Ball State faced one round of singles versus Xavier. Malykh was the lone singles winner after she beat Abby Nugent in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
The Ball State women's tennis team will wrap up play at the UC/Pam Whitehead Invitational Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. ET with a double's competition versus Xavier. After that, the Cardinals will play one round of singles apiece against Cincinnati and Miami.
