Despite their best effort, the Cardinals (4-3, 1-1 MAC) struggled to regain their composure after falling behind 2-0 to the Golden Flashes (4-4, 2-0 MAC) in the first 30 minutes of action.
Kent State would find the back of the cage five more times in the second half of play even though Ball State turned up its defensive pressure throughout the remainder of the contest.
The Cardinals did have a few scoring opportunities but struggled to convert.
The Ball State field hockey team continues its two-game weekend when it returns home Sunday to host Big Ten foe Iowa at the Briner Sports Complex. The game is slated to begin at noon. The Cardinals will also welcome Grissom Elementary as their special guests.
