Field Hockey Hosts Saint Francis University Friday In Season Opener

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team is set to open its 2022 season this Friday at home as the Cardinals host Saint Francis for 1 pm ET showdown in the Briner Sports Complex.
The Cardinals will be under the direction of first-year head coach Caitlin Walsh and her assistant Katarina Polyviou. Ball State also returns 20 letter winners from last year's squad while welcoming six newcomers.
Ball State and Saint Francis last met on Sept. 5, 2021, in Loretto, Pa., resulting in an exciting 2-1 overtime win for the Cardinals. Senior Kerrianne McClay saved the day against the Red Flash with her game-winning goal. McClay found the net at the at the 60:37 mark in overtime off a penalty corner. McClay also got help from her teammate junior Paloma Gomez Rengifo who dished out the assist.
The Cardinal and the Red Flash have met a total of three times (2017, 2018 & 22021) with Ball State leading the series 2-1.
After Friday, the Cardinals return to Briner Sports Complex for two games over Labor Day weekend. Ball State will welcome Lehigh (Sept. 3) and Villanova (Sept. 4) to campus. Both games will begin at noon.
