August 19, 2022 | Women's Volleyball
MUNCIE, Ind. - - After battling itself for nearly two weeks in preseason camp, the 2022 Ball State women's volleyball team will get its first taste of outside competition Saturday when it travels up I-69 to face Purdue Fort Wayne for a 2 p.m. exhibition match.
Admission to the match, which will be played on Arnie Ball Court at the Hilliard Gates Sports Center, is free for all fans.
The defending Mid-American Conference regular season and tournament champion Cardinals will be battling the Mastodons for the third straight fall preseason, as the teams also squared off for exhibition matches in 2019 and 2021.
Ball State is coming off one of the most successful campaigns in program history, as it finished the 2021 season with a 30-4 record, advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and captured both the MAC regular season and tournament titles.
The Cardinals return a majority of last season's key contributors including First Team All-MAC honorees Natalie Mitchem, Marie Plitt and Megan Wielonski. Wielonski was also named the MAC Freshman of the Year after helping BSU rank first in the league and 23rd nationally with a .265 team attack percentage.
The Mastodons also return several key members of last season's squad which finished the year with an 8-23 overall record. Junior middle blocker Ramei Jackson enters the season ranked 10th in program history with a .274 career hitting percentage, while senior libero Rachael Crucis is 12th in program history with 1,313 career digs and third with a 4.30 career digs-per-set average.
With Saturday's match being an exhibition contest, live audio, video, and stats will be unavailable.
