Mowat Steps Down as Ball State Women’s Golf Head Coach
June 14, 2022 | Women's Golf
MUNCIE, Ind. – After 18 seasons as the head coach of the Ball State women's golf program, Katherine Mowat announced that she is stepping down as the Ball State women's golf team head coach.
Mowat is leaving golf to a position in the health and wellness industry. She will remain the active head coach until Friday, June 17.
"It has been an incredible personal and professional experience to lead this program for the last 18 years," Mowat said. "I am thankful for the many colleagues and administrators I have had the pleasure of working with.
"I am thankful for the Ball State and Muncie community, who have been wonderful to me and my family over the years. Most of all, I am thankful for the tremendous women who I have had the privilege of coaching at Ball State. Thank you for your dedication and thank you for the memories. I wish the Cardinals and the women's golf program much success moving forward."
During her 18 seasons with the Cardinals, Mowat was a two-time Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year and accumulated 20 tournament wins. She coached 58 Women's Golf Coaches Association All-America Scholar honorees and tutored 36 Academic All-MAC honorees as well as one CoSIDA Academic All-District selection.
On the course, Mowat guided Jenna Hague and Brittany Kelly to NCAA Regional appearances. In addition, she led Katie Sundberg (2005) and Hague (2012) to become MAC Championship medalists.
Mowat coached each of the top five players on Ball State's all-time list for career scoring average -- Kelly (76.43), Manon Tounalom (76.89), Hague (77.22), Kelsey Sear (78.53) and Rachael Pruett (78.78).
Mowat led Ball Sate to runner-up finishes twice at the MAC Championships in 2010 and 2012. The second-place finish in 2010 was the best ever for the Cardinals at the league tournament and came in the same year Mowat became the program's first conference coach of the year.
Under the guidance of Mowat, the Cardinals posted 11 All-MAC team selections, including the past two seasons with Hadley Moritz and Liz Kim. Kim was also named the MAC's Sportswoman of the Year for back-to-back seasons.
A comprehensive search for the next leader of the Ball State women's golf program is underway.
