NCAA Bound: The Cardinals Take on The Defending National Champions Texas on Friday

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team, which earned an automatic bid by winning the Mid-American Conference Tournament title for the second time in program history on Sunday, May 1 and will now face the 2021 defending national champions, Texas in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Ball State and Texas will meet Friday, May 6 at 2 pm in the Texas Tennis Center. The winner will advance to play Saturday, May 7 against the winner of the first-round match in Austin, Texas, Michigan versus Oregon.Â

The Cardinals, who also won the league's regular season title, defeated No. 3 seed Toledo, 4-3, at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center on Sunday, May 1.Â

In just nine seasons, Ball State head coach Max Norris has guided the program to all four of its MAC regular season championships (2016, 2017, 2021 and 2022), and now both MAC Tournament Championships (2016 and 2022), along with three trips to the NCAA Tournament (2016, 2021 and 2022). Â

The Cardinals will take their 19-4 overall record to Austin. The defending national champions Texas enters the match with an 20-4 record and an 8-1 Big 12 mark.
