Khan, Ranieri in top 10 to lead Cardinals after 18 holes at MAC Championship

Ali Khan tied for fourth, Joey Ranieri tied for ninth after first day of tournament
NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Ball State men's golfers Ali Khan and Joey Ranieri sit inside the top 10 at the conclusion of the first round of the Mid-American Conference Championship Friday. Khan is tied for fourth with at even par (72), while Ranieri is tied for ninth at 1-over (73).
The Cardinals are in fifth at 13-over (301) after 18 holes at the par-72 White Eagle Country Club. Eastern Michigan leads the field at 1-over (289), followed by Toledo (292) and Kent State (295).
Khan was nearly flawless on the day as he produced three birdies and 12 pars on his first card. The redshirt freshman birdied his first hole of the day and added birdies at No. 1 and No. 4.
Ranieri rattled off a team-best five birdies on his first circuit, including three on the back nine.
Kash Bellar and Colin Nasser are tied for 25th at 6-over (78). Bellar had a team-high 13 pars, while Nasser's highlights came from an eagle on the par-5 sixth hole and birdies on No. 11 and No. 14.
Rounding out the lineup, Joey Wiseman is tied for 26th at 10-over (82).
Ball State tees off the second round Saturday at 8:30 a.m. ET in a pairing with Bowling Green off the No. 10 tee box.
