MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State 10th-year head women's basketball coach Brady Sallee has announced the signing of Skyla Knight (Los Angeles, Calif./Hoover [Ala.] HS) from Butler Community College.
"We are ecstatic to bring a high-level winner like Skyla into our program," Sallee said. "She will immediately make a difference on both ends of the floor for us. You will see a motor that is second to none, a three-level scorer, and a truly impactful defender. Her versatility and no-nonsense approach have me so excited to coach her, it's hard to put into words. A high-level student, high-level player and high-level person is headed to Cardinal country."
Knight is currently still playing at Butler Community College located in El Dorado, Kansas, and is competing in the national tournament. The Grizzlies take on Otero Junior College in the first round of the NJCAA tournament on Monday, April 19 at 8 p.m. CT.
So far for her career at Butler CC, she has averaged 15.0 points, 3.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds per contest in helping the Girzzlies to a Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference regular season title. Skyla recently was named First Team All-KJCCC. She also previously played one season at Little Rock.
Knight averaged 13.2 points, 2.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game for her career at Hoover High School in Alabama. She is a member of the program's 1,000-point club. Knight helped the Buccaneers win Alabama Class 7A State Championships in 2017 and 2019.
As a senior, Knight was named First Team All-State while also being tabbed as the state tournament's most valuable player. Knight was a member of the AHSAA 7A Northwest All-Region Team in 2019 while also earning AHSAA Area 5 MVP accolades. She ended her senior season as a participant in the Alabama vs. Mississippi All-Star Game.
Knight is the sixth addition to the Cardinals' incoming crop and joins a group featuring Ally Becki (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg HS), Madelyn Bischoff (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli HS), Makenna Burch (Tulsa, Okla./Northeastern Oklahoma A&M), Marie Kiefer (Melbourne, Ky./Bishop Brossart HS) and Jazmyn Turner (Marion, Ind./Wabash Valley CC).
