Fifth-year WR is one of just seven players to score a touchdown via rush, reception and kickoff return this season
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Ball State wide receiver Justin Hall was selected to the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll following his performance in a win at Akron, the Louisville Sports Commission announced Monday.
The Douglasville, Ga. native touched the ball 14 times through four different ways and scored two different ways as the Cardinals held off Akron 31-25 in a road conference win. Hall scored on a 25-yard run in the first quarter and a 13-yard reception in the second quarter to help Ball State build a 28-10 lead. He accounted for three first downs from scrimmage, returned a kickoff 24 yards and a punt nine yards.
Nine games into the 2021 season, Hall is averaging 136.9 all-purpose yards per game, good for 16th-most in the country. At 5,223 yards, the fifth-year needs just 115 all-purpose yards to break Dante Love's (2005-08) program record of 5,337. Hall has caught a pass in all of his 52 career games play. He needs just two more games catching a pass to tie Central Michigan's Bryan Anderson (2006-09) for the most consecutive games catching a pass with 54 in NCAA history.
Hall is second in the country in average all-purpose yards among players who have logged at least one yard through rushing, receiving, punt return and kickoff return only to Michigan State's Jayden Reed (137.8). He has 579 receiving yards, 380 kickoff return yards, 176 rushing yards and 97 punt return yards, good for a total of 1,232 total all-purpose yards.
In addition, Hall is one of just seven players nationally to score a touchdown via rush, receiving and kickoff return this season, joining Devon Achane (Texas A&M), Rasheen Ali (Marshall), Calvin Austin III (Memphis), Jase McClellan (Alabama), Jayden Reed (Michigan State) and Chris Tyree (Notre Dame).
Hall has scored multiple touchdowns in eight career games, including four with at least one rushing and one receiving score - two of which have come this season.
The Louisville Sports Commission successfully launched the Paul Hornung Award in 2010 to honor its namesake and native son, and to promote outstanding performances by versatile college football players who often go unnoticed. Each week during the regular season, a panel of college football experts selects players for the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll based on performance. A national selection committee comprised of 17 sports journalists and former NFL stars votes for the Hornung Award finalists and the winner, with fan voting powered by Texas Roadhouse comprising the 18th vote.
