November 01, 2021 | Women's Basketball
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's basketball team will make it first appearance of the 2021-22 season Wednesday night at 4 p.m. ET in Worthen Arena when the Cardinals host Oakland City University in exhibition play.
The Cardinals' roster includes seven newcomers and eight returnees this season. Ball State returns All-Mid-American Conference selection Sydney Freeman from last year's squad (12.3 ppg, 3.9 rpg) along with teammates Anna Clephane (12.2 ppg, 3.5 rpg), Thelma Dis Agustsdottir (11.8 ppg, 4.9 rpg), Annie Rauch (6.2 ppg, 3.9 rpg), Blake Smith (3.3 ppg, 3.6 rpg), Ivet Subirats (3.2 ppg, 1.8 rpg), Estel Puiggros (1.4 ppg, 1.1 rpg) and Cameron Grant.
Ball State welcomes three true freshmen to the team in Ally Becki, Madelyn Bischoff and Marie Kiefer. The Cardinals also welcome four transfers to the roster this season in Makenna Burch, Skyla Knight, Chyna Latimer and Jazmyn Turner.
The last time the Cardinals played Oakland City in an exhibition game was on the same date eight years ago (Nov. 3, 2013). That contest resulted in a 109-58 victory for Ball State.
After a nontraditional season last year, the Ball State women's basketball program is excited to return to the court with a full 30-game schedule for the 2021-22 season. The Cardinals will play 16 of those games at home in Worthen Arena.
Ball State head coach Brady Sallee enters his 10th season at the helm of the Cardinals, already the winningest coach in program history. He touts a record of 163-119 (.578) in just nine seasons and has guided Ball State to six straight postseason Women's National Invitation Tournaments, a WNIT Final 16 appearance, a Mid-American Conference West Division title (2014), eight MAC Tournament appearances and four 20-plus win seasons, a feat no head coach at Ball State had done before him.
Sallee has also coached the program's all-time leading scorer Nathalie Fontaine (2,166), all-time rebounder Oshlynn Brown (1,106) and the all-time assists leader Carmen Grande (697).
Ball State officially opens the 2021-22 season at home for its annual Field Trip Day on Tuesday, Nov. 9 at 11:30 a.m. ET against Milwaukee. After that, the Cardinals remain home for the first of three contests versus schools from the state of Indiana, when they welcome Purdue Fort Wayne to Worthen Arena on Friday, Nov. 12 at 6:30 p.m. ET.
