Eight Cardinals Selected to Athlon’s Preseason All-MAC Team
May 29, 2019 | Football
MUNCIE, Ind. – It's that time of year when the preseason college football magazines start hitting the shelves. Athlon Sports recently released its preseason publication and eight Ball State Cardinals were named to the preseason All-MAC team, led by senior wide receiver Riley Miller.
Miller, a local product out of Yorktown, Indiana, was Ball State's lone representative on Athlon's first team. He ranked third in the MAC in receptions per game (5.1) and fourth in receiving yards per game (73.2) in 2018.
Four Ball State players made the second team – linebackers Jacob White and Ray Wilborn, wide receiver Justin Hall and offensive lineman Danny Pinter. White and Wilborn combined for 149 tackles, including 15 tackles for loss, last fall. Hall, who was named an ESPN.com Freshman All-American in 2017, was a key contributor again in 2018 as he ranked second in the MAC in receptions (69). Pinter moved from tight end last fall and started all 12 games at right tackle.
A third Ball State linebacker, Christian Albright, found his name on Athlon's third team. Albright recorded team highs in sacks (5.5) and forced fumbles (4) while ranking fourth in total tackles (67) during his sophomore year in 2018. Running back Caleb Huntley was selected to the fourth team. He ranked third in the MAC in rushing yards per game (83.6) as a true freshman in 2017 before seeing his sophomore campaign cut short by injury.
Hall (third team) and Malik Dunner (fourth team) were also named as all-conference specialists as a punt returner and kick returner, respectively. Dunner, who lined up as a running back in his first three years on the team, made the move to wide receiver this spring.
Athlon based its honors on how it thought the players would perform in 2019, not based on career statistics and previous awards. For the complete Athlon Sports preseason All-MAC team, click here.
