Bryeana Byrdsong Named MAC Track Athlete of the Week
March 26, 2019 | Track & Field
CLEVELAND, Ohio - - After turning in a tremendous effort at last weekend's Vanderbilt Black & Gold Invitational, Ball State junior sprinter Bryeana Byrdsong has been named the Mid-American Conference Track Athlete of the Week.
Â
"Bryeana did a great job this past weekend at Vanderbilt," head coach Brian Etelman said. "We were all incredibly impressed with how fast she opened up her season. It's still early in the season, and we have a lot of work to do to achieve some very high goals, but we are looking forward to seeing how much faster she will run as the championship portion of our season approaches."
Â
Not only did Byrdsong earn MAC automatic qualifying marks in both the 100m (11.79) and 200m (23.88) at least weekend's meet, her times currently rank atop the league's performance list in each event.
Â
In addition to her strong individual runs, Byrdsong ran the second leg for the 4x100m relay which put up the second-best time in program history at 45.30, which also currently leads the MAC this season. It was .02 shy of the school record in which Byrdsong helped set last season.Â
Â
Byrdsong closed the meet by running the third leg of the 4x400m relay which clocked in at 3:50.88, which is the third-fastest time in the MAC so far this outdoor season.
Â
Ball State will send junior distance runner Maritza Rodriguez to this weekend's Raleigh Relays to compete in the 5,000m Friday, while Byrdsong and the remainder of the squad will focus on training for the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational hosted by Cincinnati April 5-6.
