Potts and Stuteville Selected to All-Region Teams
December 04, 2019 | Soccer
MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State soccer's Nicky Potts and Tristin Stuteville were both selected to the United Soccer Coaches All-Midwest Region Teams with Potts earning first team honors and Stuteville landing on the third team.
Both Potts and Stuteville were earlier named to the All-MAC First Team after the Cardinals tied the school record for wins in a season with 15. Those 15 wins were good for second place in the Mid-American Conference.
Potts had a breakout year for the Cardinals with a team high 20 points on nine goals and two assists. The England native also put away five game-winning goals which was the most in the conference. Potts scored the first goal of her career in a road win at Omaha when she netted the game-winner in the 45th minute. She also scored a pair of goals in BSU's first conference win against Eastern Michigan, including the game-winner in overtime. Her nine goals are the most at Ball State since Abbie Boswell scored 10 in 2015.
"This is a great honor for Nicky," said head coach Josh Rife. "It's exciting to see her being recognized for her hard work and overcoming adversity along the way."
Stuteville completed a record-breaking season in 2019 as she became the winningest goalkeeper in Ball State soccer history with a total of 37 victories. She completed seven shutouts on the year, the most in the MAC. That also gives her the third most all-time at BSU with 19. The sixth-year graduate student made 85 saves for the year, the second-most in the MAC and the fourth-highest total for a single season at Ball State. Her save percentage of .842 was also best in the MAC.
"Tristin is no stranger to recognition," Rife said. "But this one is special because it's other coaches who are showing their respect to what she has accomplished this season."
Potts will be back to lead the Cardinals in 2020 while Stuteville has exhausted her eligibility and will pursue a professional playing career.
