Ball State Brings Home a Big Win and Honors From Charleston

CHARLESTON, SC – Though one of two matches was cancelled due to weather, the Ball State University soccer team strung together a successful weekend in South Carolina at the Charleston Classic that included a win and all-tournament honors.
The Cardinals exploded for three goals in their match with College of Charleston for the highest scoring output of the season. Freshman Tatiana Mason scored the first goal of the match in the 51st minute and was followed by goals from Peighton Cook and Sam Kambol in an 18-minute span.
The win over the Cougars was a big one for Ball State considering College of Charleston had gone down to the wire with power-five opponents South Carolina and Wake Forest before facing off with the Cardinals. BSU also appeared to have another victory in hand as it led Charleston Southern 2-0 in the 38th minute on Sunday (Sept. 2), but lightning struck, and the game was cancelled.
Lauren Roll had scored in the 18th minute and Emily Scott as well just moments later. Unfortunately, Ball State will not collect a win or the statistics from Sunday's match, due to the NCAA rule stating that a match must last at least 70 minutes to be counted as official.
"It was disappointing that we couldn't finish the match against Charleston Southern, but I still think we got out of it what we wanted to," said head coach Craig Roberts. "We played a few matches this weekend in difficult conditions, but the girls performed well and improved on the things that we've been practicing."
Despite the cancellation, Ball State claimed three spots on the Charleston Classic All-Tournament 11. Tristin Stuteville, Julia Elvbo and Sammi Corcoran took home those honors for the Cardinals after each of them put together strong individual showings. Stuteville did not allow a goal through the entire weekend.
